Literacy, Literature, and Lifting Our Community

"Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You" book cover

Join us for our April meeting as two local educators with a passion for reading share how their work is engaging citizens of all ages in our community.

Jolene Radnoti, Executive Director of Read To Succeed, will talk about the work of RTS and especially the annual One Book program, an initiative to support community reading and unity.

This year's selection is Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi. Our League will be reading the book this summer and hosting a Community Conversation about the book in the fall.

Liz Miller, founder of the Southeastern Young Adult Book Festival and a member of the One Book committee, will join us to talk about Stamped and share some of her experiences with how writers like Reynolds are creating a wave of enthused readers and advocates for social justice, civil rights, and more.

About our speakers

Jolene Radnoti has been the Executive Director of Read To Succeed for three years. Prior to her current position, she worked with Murfreesboro City Schools for seven years, the last two of them as Family and Community Outreach Coordinator for the district. This position is where Jolene's spark for helping families with literacy started. Jolene saw parents struggling to register their children and then those children struggling with their studies. From there she began working closely with families to make sure the parents were aware of free programs to help them improve their literacy skills.

Liz Miller is the president and founder of the Southeastern Young Adult Book Festival and a librarian at Stewarts Creek High School in Smyrna, TN. In addition to the One Book Committee, Liz also serves on the Volunteer State Book Award Nomination Committee through the Tennessee Association of School Librarians. She has been the recipient of the Innovative Library Award and the TASL Presidential Award. She holds a Master's in Library Science from MTSU. She has served as an educator for 24 years.
