ALICE, an acronym, for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed is a new way of defining and understanding the struggles of households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level but not enough to afford basic necessities. Almost half of households in Rutherford County live on the verge of financial instability and struggle to meet basic needs.
Several community organizations: Launch Point, The Family Center, Legal Aid Society, Workforce Essentials, Murfreesboro City Schools, and Rutherford County Schools, have been invited to share their experience providing direct services to ALICE families and what actions residents, employers, public leaders and other organizations within our community can undertake to effectively decrease that 46% of households living on the verge of financial instability.
The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County, the United Way of South Central Tennessee and the Human Development and Family Science Department of the Middle Tennessee State University are all nonpartisan organizations and welcomes everyone to participate in this program.
